Vanpool Formation: Fredericksburg, VA Area

Are you a full-time faculty/staff member who lives in the Fredericksburg, VA area?  Would you like to have your commute costs reimbursed up to $270/month, tax-free, not have to do all the driving, park free at Mason, and reduce carbon emissions?  If so, consider vanpooling.  Parking and Transportation is starting with the Fredericksburg area and has developed a short vanpool match survey

More detailed information about vanpooling at Mason is available.  If you have any questions about vanpooling – whether you live in the Fredericksburg area or not – please reach out to transpo@gmu.edu.

Upcoming Performances at Mason

Hylton Performing Arts Center

Luther’s Trumpet – Virtual Event
Directed by Rick Davis
Mason School of Theater

Friday, May 28 at 8 p.m. through Saturday, May 29 at 11:59 p.m.

Acclaimed historian James Reston, Jr. adapted his 2016 book Luther’s Fortress into this new dramatic work for the stage that will leave you pondering questions about faith, justice, and standing up against authoritarianism. Presented by Mason Arts at Home as a digital, pre-recorded performance in partnership with Mason’s School of Theater, Luther’s Trumpet stars professional actors including Edward Gero as Martin Luther, Kevin Murray as Tetzel, and Craig Wallace as Pope Leo. Judge David Tatel (U.S. Court of Appeals) reprises the role of the Devil, which he portrayed in the 2018 premiere production at Stone Hill amphitheater. Mason students join community and faculty actors in this “hybrid” production recorded from the Center for the Arts Concert Hall, employing the Moving Story Window Wall projection technology (developed at Mason) in order to blend scenic effects and on-stage actors with others appearing remotely.

Hylton on the Hill

Seán Heely Celtic Band
Saturday, May 29 at 4 p.m.

Don’t miss U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion Seán Heely and his band of All-Star Celtic musicians for an outdoor performance that will sweep audiences away to Scotland and Ireland. The outdoor stage will come alive with music when Heely joins forces with All-Ireland singing champion and Mason alum Kevin Elam, bouzouki player Beth Patterson, percussionist Lucas Ashby, and percussive dancer Agi Kovacs. From high-energy Celtic fiddle tunes to haunting Scots Gaelic melodies and folk ballads, this concert has it all. The charismatic, kilt-clad band leader has played with traditional music icons such as Liz Carroll, Bonnie Rideout, Cathy Jordan, Eamon O’Leary, and Paddy Keenan. The return of the Hylton Center’s outdoor concerts will be well worth the wait when Heely and his talented collaborators hit that stage for this rollicking Hylton on the Hill performance.
