Happiest of Septembers to you all! The campus is changing, and we are once again feeling the energy that only students can bring. The advent of the academic year brings new events, new studies, and new chapters to so many of our students’ lives. I hope you know your work for the University is important. Mason staff help make our students’ lives and educations so much better. We are the gears that keep this clock ticking!
It has been a busy first month for me as Chair of the Staff Senate. I’ve received many warm congratulations from the administration and had the opportunity to meet with fantastic advocates for staff. If you don’t already know about the Office of Government & Community Relations, you should certainly put them on your radar. In meeting with Mark Smith and Sabena Moretz, I was able to speak about staff concerns regarding compensation. It was heartening to hear that these two advocates work tirelessly on our behalf in Richmond. If you’d like to hear more about what Mark and Sabena do on behalf of Mason staff in the state capital, and tell them what is important to you, they will be presenting at our October 7 general meeting.
Coming up at our general meeting on September 2, we’ll host Sarah Moran and Heidi Bloom from the Center for Global Education, followed by Mark Kraner of Auxiliary Enterprises and Mason Dining. I hope you will come and discover all of the wonderful opportunities offered by these organizations.
