Join the Faculty/Staff Choir

Love to sing? Join the George Mason University Faculty/Staff Choir! Faculty, staff, retirees, and graduate students are invited to participate, with no audition required. Rehearsals are held Thursdays from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Center for the Arts, Monson Tier. The choir is directed by Dr. Lisa Billingham and accompanied by Dr. Lisa Bloy. This is a great opportunity to connect with colleagues, enjoy making music, and be part of a welcoming community. For more information, contact [email protected].

New School Year, Same Old Phishing

The new school year brings an increase in phishing attempts by cybercriminals who know people are busy.  As students, faculty, and staff are settling into the 2026 – 27 academic year, it’s an important time to remain on guard and to report any phishing attempts you may receive. Reporting phishing emails allows ITS to properly assess and notify others who may be targets. Phishing emails can be reported to ITS directly from your Outlook inbox or by calling ITS Support at 703-993-8870.

Alumni Email is Changing

Email service for George Mason alumni is transitioning to an email forwarding service. After multiple email solutions were offered over the years, a forwarding service was chosen to provide a sustainable and affordable solution for alumni to stay connected to the university. The new forwarding service offers an @gmualumni.org email address that forwards messages to a non-George Mason email address. This change does not affect current students or employees. Register for Faculty-Staff Enrichment Day (FSED)

Invest in yourself, connect with colleagues, and recharge with the George Mason community at this year’s Faculty-Staff Enrichment Day (FSED) on Wednesday, October 21.

This year’s theme, People First, Future Ready, celebrates the people who make George Mason thrive while exploring the skills, ideas, and strategies that will shape the university’s future. Join colleagues from across the university for engaging workshops, networking opportunities, and interactive sessions designed to inspire new ideas and connections.

All George Mason employees are invited to participate, and supervisors are encouraged to provide flexibility during work hours so faculty and staff can attend.

Mason Working Moms Support Group Kickoff

The Mason Working Moms Support Group is one way faculty, staff, and students can come together, discuss the issues confronting working mothers, and perhaps motivate changes on campus. The group will kick off fall network meetings on Wednesday, September 9 at 12:00 in the Women and Gender Studies Center, Johnson Center, Room 240K, or via Teams. These networking meetings are available to women interested in sharing stories and being part of an informal organization of working mothers.

The Staff Senate will collect questions in advance for consideration. Please use the form below to submit your comment or question by Monday, September 28. We will take live questions, time permitting.

The Staff Senate represents all classified and non-student wage employees at George Mason University. Working closely with university administration, we address concerns that have an impact on the quality of work-life for the George Mason community. The work of the senate is accomplished through open and continuous communication with its constituents.

The Staff Senate would like to recognize outstanding staff members across the university with a shout-out in our newsletter. If your unit has recently honored a staff member with an award, recognition, or other achievement, please share it with us via this form so we can highlight them in an upcoming newsletter and/or on our website.

Each month, we look forward to sharing as many shout-outs as space allows. While we may not be able to feature every submission or include all accompanying photos, we will do our best to highlight as many wonderful updates as possible. If your shout-out is not included in the current issue, please know it may be considered for a future newsletter.

New SciTech Townhomes Available

As the anchor for Northern Virginia’s first Innovation District, George Mason University’s Science and Technology Campus is going through a major growth spurt. George Mason employees now have the option to live in the center of it all. George Mason is offering affordable, high-quality housing to faculty and staff at the SciTech Townhomes.
