June Staff Senate Meeting: State Government Relations and Environmental Health and Safety

Representatives from State Government Relations and Environmental Health and Safety will be the guest speakers at the upcoming Staff Senate meeting:

Wednesday, June 1
12 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Fairfax: Merten Hall, Room 1201
Arlington: Founders Hall, Room B119 (video-conferenced)
SciTech: Bull Run Hall, Room 254 (video-conferenced)

Submit your questions for our guest speakers:
To promote a dialog at the Staff Senate General Meetings, the Senate is collecting questions from constituents. This is your opportunity to ask university leadership about things that are important to you! Submit your question in advance using the online submission form or email your question to staffsenate@gmu.edu. You may include your name, or you may ask to remain anonymous.

Staff Senate reserves the right to determine which questions are asked during the meeting. Any selected questions that could not be asked during the session due to time constraints will be emailed to the guest speaker, and the responses will be published in the Staff Senate newsletter at a later date.

All who attend the Staff Senate general meeting are welcome to ask questions in-person, during the session.

Pop-Up Pantry Needs

Mason’s Pop-Up Pantry will be operating over the summer and is running low on some of the most wanted items.

If you are able to contribute, it is most appreciated. Should you need help dropping off items, email pantry@gmu.eduHere are some of the items that are needed:

  • Fruit cups
  • Crackers (peanut butter, cheese, etc.)
  • Granola bars
  • Chips (Cheez-Its, trail mix, etc.)
  • Rice (pre-made, microwaveable, etc.)
  • Ravioli (microwaveable)
  • Cereal (in individual cups or in the box)
  • Razors and shaving cream
  • Bottled drinks/drink mixes
  • First-aid equipment
  • Notebooks, binders, and folders
  • Reusable water bottles
  • Mouthwash, toothpaste, and toothbrushes

All donations require drop-off coordination with the Pop-Up Pantry. The Pantry is open by appointment only.  Email pantry@gmu.edu to arrange your donation.

Staff Senate Nomination Period Opens in June

Staff Senate Ask Me Button WRBecoming a Staff Senator is a great way to get involved with the university community and have an impact on your workplace. The Senate provides many opportunities to learn about how the university works and network with administrators and staff members outside your unit.

The Senate accepts nominations each June, and elections are held in July. Terms begin in August and are for two years. 2016 dates are below:

  • Nominations accepted Monday, June 13, through Friday, June 24, at 5 p.m.
  • Elections held Monday, July 11, through Friday, July 22, at 5 p.m.

The Staff Senate nomination form can be found here. Completed forms are due to the Staff Senate administrative assistant by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 24. All nominations must be submitted electronically to staffsenate@gmu.edu.
